Musical Madness, Puppet Shows, & Monkey Park Farewells
The clock strikes 3:30 and you can hear the sounds of the children’s voices on the front side walk. Giggles, often time rowdiness, and excitement as they wait for us to open the large tin rolling doors so they can come blasting in. All this happening as we have to remind them….EVERDAY….
“una fila por favor”, sin gritar”, “sin correr”
“one line please”, “no yelling”, “no running”
Kids! EVERYTHING is this exciting EVERYDAY when you’re a kid. Their energy is contagious, and to know that they enjoy coming to read and participate in the activities this much everyday is quite humbling!
My time with these kids has really flown by! In the end, I was with Fundacion Arte Del Mundo for 6 weeks, and it always felt as if I had just arrived yesterday. As you read this, I haved moved on to the coast of Ecuador, but think and reflect about my time there daily.
In my last couple of weeks, it was non-stop creativity and fun. There was musical madness (well… we called it a symphony of sounds – you can hear our masterpiece in the video below), theatre games, a traveling puppet show, recycled paper art exhibition (helped teach the children the importance of recycling), and a farewell trip to the Monkey Rescue Center.
Thanks to two very generous donors, Small World Pursuits raised $220.00 to pay for the children’s outing to the Monkey Park/Rescue Center. This included the entrance fee to the rescue center, transportation, lunch, and a day that ended in swimming and bright parachutes. But, most importantly, smiles and laughter on the faces of 30 children. Thank you Jay Carson and 2 Backpackers for being a supporter of Small World Pursuits (SWP)and the children of Fundacion Arte Del Mundo!!
Put yourself in all the excitement – Watch the SWP video below!
SWP will continue to fundraise for upcoming projects. Interested in supporting SWP’s mission on this round the world volunteer journey? If so, you can contribute here. Also, during the rest of my time in South America, I have committed to doing some volunteer work with The Nukanti Children’s Foundation in Colombia. Read all about them and their upcoming volunteer trip here!

What an amazing opportunity to be able to bring the kids to the rescue center. And how great to have supporters like that!
I know! I am so grateful for supporters who are willing to help and put smiles on the faces of children! Glad you stopped by to see the video!

Made MeMe so happy to see the smile on your face. Makes it easier for you to not be here with us just knowing you are helping the children feel so much love from you. Just this week Reagan and I were talking about you and she said with her cute little facial expression: “MeMe I just miss Alisha so very much”. I assured her you were missing her too and it wouldn’t be too long until you were back with us for a short time.
Aww! I’m glad it made you happy to see us happy!:) I hope Reagan enjoyed the video as well and all the kids that love arts, crafts, and music just as much as she does! Please tell her that we will have tons of play time when I am there in about a month. Love you both very much!

You and your video put a smile upon my face
Wow! That is very sweet. I had no idea you would be following along.
I am doing some work now with a foundation from Colombia but they have employees in Spain. I have been working with a lady in the south of Spain on the online store and it made me think of you and hope you are doing well!
